Brewery Feature: Boulevard Brewing!

Boulevard has to be one of the most under rated and excellent breweries that I have had the pleasure of experience. Founded in 1989, they have shaped and revolutionized the craft beer scene in the Midwest, with very little recognition! Being lucky enough to be a part of their distribution, here in Washington, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy the majority of their line up. As I am sure most of you have noticed, Boulevard has been getting a lot of my attention. Even so, to date, I have only tried 10 of their 27 beers!

Some of my personal favorites from Boulevard have included their Wheat Wine as well as their Belgian Stout. Both of which are rich, full bodied, unique and flavorful. Harvest Dance, their Wheat Wine, is the highest rated of the style and my first experience with the style! Wheat malts in conjunction with higher alcohol content result in a full bodied, intense, yet highly drinkable beer. Basically an American take on the Weizenbock, Wheat Wines are definitely a new favorite style of mine. The bar was set high with Harvest Dance, but I eagerly await tasting my next wheat wine!

Another unique beer from Boulevard, Dark Truth, comes off as a hybrid of an Imperial Stout and Belgian Quad. Brewed with a Belgian yeast strain, this imperial stout has all of the typical characteristics along with an interesting earthiness and dry finish. A great take on this emerging style, Boulevard once again bridges the gap between American & Belgian Ales!

Most recently, I obtained one of their most limited and exclusive beers: BBQ. A Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad that is reminiscent of their highly acclaimed Quad: The Sixth Glass. BBQ is aged in Bourbon Barrels and blended with a solid helping of fresh cherries. This beer set a huge standard for me, as far as complexity and uniqueness. BBQ has traditional quad notes balanced with a solid cherry presence and nice vanilla notes with traces of oak because of the barrel aging. Definitely worth the trouble of finding, this beer finalized what an amazing brewery Boulevard is and I look forward to trying the rest of their offerings!
