First up was BRRRBON: a Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer from Widmer Bros.
The base beer used in this offering is their standard winter release; Brrr.
Brrr is definetely one of the better examples of that style; which I am apparently becoming a fan of!
However, the Bourbon Barrel aging allowed for a very unique beer with subtle notes of bourbon and vanilla.
Surprisingly, very balanced and not overwhelming boozy, despite the addition of 2% abv due to the barrel aging.
I have been meaning to try this beer for quite some time, but for whatever reason never did.
I stumbled upon this years vintage at Rocket Market for only $4.50!
Very well balanced, hoppy, and a little lower in alcohol compared to the average American Barleywine.
Old Boardhead was definitely a solid beer for the price!
We had an amazing Christmas dinner and I decided to pair it with Deschute's Jubelale.
Another winter warmer that complimented the food quite well.
I felt like a King sitting down to this meal!
Twice baked potato, Celebration Cranberries, Broccoli, and a Cornish hen. |
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed some good beers and great times; CHEERS!
